2011-03-03 12:11 A new kind of translation exercise: Names!

Different languages pronounce and spell names differently. Here's an opportunity to record how your conlangs do it.

Don't do this kind of translation exercise if a conlang borrows a name with no changes, as that is not very interesting. In fact, such "translations" will on occasion be removed.

The first names out are the most popular first names of the US according to Wikipedia, James and Mary. Next up is popular names from Germany, Leon and Mia , the UK and Northern Ireland, Oliver and Olivia, and Canada, Jacob and Emma. These countries are the most common on Where are we from on the Statistics-page.

I'm working on a system to more easily easily suggest new stuff to translate but it is still just some doodles on a post-it note.
