Salhari pronouns distinguish a 3rd person referent who is present from one who is absent. Present 3rd person referents are referred to with demonstratives corresponding to the interrogative "who", in either proximal or distal, depending on their physical location relative to the speaker. Absent 3rd person referents are referred to with a set of gender-encoded pronouns which are unrelated to demonstratives.
